Tour de Harvest History
In the fall of 1996 the first “Tour
de Harvest” event was held at the Covey Run Winery
with about 64 people attending. Board members sold tickets.
A bike ride and a hayride were optional. A lovely French
meal was served while the Eisenhower High School Jazz band
and the Davis High School Chamber Orchestra performed. The
net income was $4,000. Tour de harvest has continued and
is now a signature event for the Yakima Schools Foundation.
While we strive to keep the essence of the event the same
the number of people attending has grown to over 300 and
income last fall was a net of over $48,000. Tour is held
at a scenic, often country estate somewhere in the valley
that can accommodate the number of dining tables necessary
for our quests. We feature wonderful wines and micro brews
from our valley to be enjoyed by our guests while they stroll
the grounds, enjoy talking with their friends, and a beautiful
autumn day while an orchestra plays. A silent and lively
oral auction is held while people enjoy a lunch prepared
by a local caterer. The bike ride is still a featured part
of the event.
Tour de Harvest 2010
The 2010 event was held at Cascade Gardens in West Yakima. It was a beautiful sunny day until half way through the Live Auction, and then we had a downpour of rain. It cleared up to again a sunny afternoon and beautiful evening. Donna Menard prepared a meal outside over a barbeque. Wine and a microbrew bottled water and Coke products were enjoyed by all our guests. Our Auctioneer was once again Paul Newman, our MC Spencer Hatton and our Raise the Paddle guest speaker was Brian Carter from Seattle of Northwest African American Museum who grew up right here in Yakima. He spoke of the importance of education. We extended the evening from 5 to 8PM with a live band, music by The EPICS.
The 2007 Tour de Harvest event raised $61,000.
The 2008 Tour de Harvest event raised $42,529.
The 2009 Tour de Harvest event raised $41,000.
The 2010 Tour de Harvest event raised $43,433.
