Grant Application Process
To
request grant funding from the Yakima Schools Foundation (YSF) please
follow the three steps listed below.
Applications for funding are accepted at the Yakima
Schools Foundation Office all year, but will be considered by the
Allocations Committee from September 1st through May 1st of each
school year.
Step 1: Determine the area of funding. Review the following list
to determine the best match for your particular request. Funds generated
from the respective endowments listed below are allocated as follows:
Warren Dean Starr Memorial Endowment - used
to request financial assistance to high school students in the
areas of performing arts, athletics, leadership, and vocational
experiences.
K-5 Fine Arts Endowment - used when requesting
funding that targets innovative elementary school art programs.
Performing Arts Endowment – used to fund
projects, experiences, equipment and materials, that foster and
support performing arts learning.
Literature to Literacy Endowment – used
to request any directly literacy related project funding.
William O. Douglas and Cecil Zylstra Endowments – Used to fund Debate Club activities at Davis and Eisenhower
High Schools.
General Endowment - used for all applications
other than those categories listed above.
The Foundation maintains designated categories of funding.
Undesignated funds are available as well.
Step 2: Complete the application,
including your school principal’s signature.
Step 3: Return the completed application to the YSF office.
Once
your application is received at the YSF office, it is reviewed
by the allocations committee at its monthly meeting. The allocations
committee conditionally approves almost all requests that meet
the stated criteria. It is important to note that our policy does
not allow us to fund salary requests. If approved by the allocations
committee, the request goes before the whole Board for review.
The full Board has the power to approve or deny the request. This
process takes four to six weeks dependent upon the date your application
is received.
Once a grant request is approved AND WE HAVE THE FUNDS, the originator
of the request is notified in writing, as are the school principal
and Finance Office of the Yakima School District. Written notification
is also provided if funding is not approved.
Approving a grant does not always mean we have the money at hand.
Often dollars are not available to fund even
a partial amount of your request. The Foundation then aggressively
looks to outside sources of funding. This process adds to the
length of time it takes to receive your funds. Sometimes, even
after a request has been approved, the YSF cannot find funds to
fulfill your request. In that case the YSF may suggest that you
resubmit the request the following year.
When you receive confirmation that your request has been funded
you can then contact the Yakima School District, Finance Office
to receive your funds.
